Top Projects in the Intermountain Region

Projects at universities in the Intermountain region held the top spots on this year's Top Projects survey. The list also reflects national trends showing growth in retail construction. For the first time since 2001 when the Gateway development in Salt Lake City led toped the lists, a retail and retail related project have landed in the top ten; a warehouse and distribution center for leading national retailer Wal-Mart in Grantsville and a new outlet for outdoor outfitter Cabela's in Lehi.

The new Spencer F. and Cleone P. Eccles Health Science Education building on the campus of the University of Utah will bring students of different medical disciplines together in a new state of the art facility to encourage interdisciplinary learning in and to improve the future of medical treatment.

Pachyderm Playground


The Elephant Encounter is designed to keep things interesting for both visitors and elephants and has been taking shape for the past year on the grounds of Utah's Hogle Zoo. Scheduled to open this month, designers have worked to create a space unlike any other at the facility.
