We painstaking went through as many resources as
possible to ensure that the information presented is accurate. Our goal was to
include any building, utility, or heavy/highway project currently under construction,
or set to break ground by June1, that is at least $10 million. We greatly appreciate
those who who took time out of their busy schedules to help us compile this list
(more than 100), it's evident that the Intermountain region is on fire in regards
to construction activity.
Construction on the new Legacy Parkway
began after the official unveiling of plans for the new roadway, trail system
and nature preserve on March 2. Construction crews on the new 14-mile road have
been working since then on the early action package, with emphasis on site preparation
activities near the southern end of the project. Corridor-wide construction will
begin this fall, with a scheduled completion date of Fall 2008. The Legacy Parkway
Project was designed as a 14-mile stretch of four-lane highway to provide an alternate
roadway for northern Utah commuters between Salt Lake City and Kaysville. The
project will alleviate congestion in one of Utah's most heavily traveled freeway
corridors, and is needed whether or not the entire Legacy Highway concept is ever
completed.
The 1.2
million square foot Intermountain Medical Center (IMC) consists of eight buildings
- A through H - over a 110-acre campus that was formerly the site of the Murray
Smelter. Slated for completion toward the end of 2007, IMC will be the largest
hospital in the Intermountain West and will function as the major adult referral
center for Utah and six surrounding states, which includes more than 75 regional
health care facilities. The most daunting construction challenge is Building C,
which includes a 15-story, 586,000 square foot main hospital and patient care
tower, along with a 193,500 square foot heart and lung center. The main hospital
will house a major trauma center, critical care and approximately 400 acute inpatient
beds. The tower features an emergency department with 58 patient treatment areas
with an inpatient/emergency imaging center, and an operating room area with 20
surgical suites. It also includes full-service clinical/non-clinical support services
like cafeterias, shops, a chapel, lobbies, classrooms, meeting and reception rooms
and office and other space required for administration.
This natural gas-fired power plant is expected to generate
525 megawatts (MW) of power. Phase 1 includes the installation and firing up of
two natural gas turbine engines capable of producing 280 megawatts of electricity
each. Phase 2 will include heat recovery steam generation and a steam turbine
to increase output by 245 megawatts.
Lake Side Power Plant
will be a highly efficient 2 x 1 natural gas fired combined cycle project. The
project will include two Siemens Westinghouse 501 F combustion turbine generators,
two heat recovery steam generators, a condensing steam turbine generator and auxiliary
plant equipment. At full operating capacity, the Lake Side Power Plant will have
a capacity of 535 megawatts (MW) during summer conditions. The planned Lake Side
Power Plant Project will be located on a 63-acre site in the town of Vineyard,
on the northern edge of the current Geneva Steel complex. Summit has purchased
the project site from Geneva Steel, LLC. Geneva has bundled the property for the
site with the necessary water rights, emission reduction credits, easements and
other development rights required for the Lake Side Power Plant. The project is
located immediately adjacent to the PacifiCorp transmission system, and will connect
to the 138 kV system at the Tri-City and Timp substations. The project is slated
for completion May 2007.
Major construction on the
I-15 NOW road widening project began this past spring. After three road construction
seasons, expected completion is September 2008. Project includes the reconstruction
of bridges, mainlines and ramp pavements, along with the replacement of 18 bridges
and the construction of two new bridges. It will include more than 300,000 cubic
yards for roadway excavation and embankment, 270,000 cubic yards base rock, 350,000
tons of asphalt pavement, 70,000 lineal feet of storm drainage pipe culvert, 170,000
square feet of MSE retaining wall and 300,000 square feet of precast noise wall.
Also, six interchanges will be reconstructed in project limits, noise walls will
be added and elements (traffic cameras, electronic message boards, pavement sensors)
of UDOT's Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) will be added. 18 bridges will
be replaced, 2 new bridges will be constructed and 4 bridges will be rehabilitated.
The Weber County to Salt Lake City Commuter
Rail project is approximately 44 miles long running from Pleasant View through
the new Ogden Transit Center at 2349 Wall Street in Downtown Ogden, and terminating
in the Salt Lake City Intermodal Center at 600 West 200 South Street, just west
of the central business district. Nine stations are planned; Pleasant View, Ogden,
Roy, Clearfield, Layton, Farmington, Woods Cross, North Temple in Salt Lake City
(Future), and the Salt Lake Intermodal Center. There are six parking lots to be
constructed adjacent to Pleasant View, Ogden, Roy, Clearfield, Layton, and Woods
Cross Stations to facilitate passenger parking. Construction of the project includes
drainage, grading, structures, stations, road crossings and track work, and train
signaling for 38 miles of dedicated UTA track. The segment from Ogden to Pleasant
View (6 miles) will operate on existing UPRR track through a shared service agreement
between the UTA and Union Pacific Railroad. This construction effort includes
a major bridge structure (to be constructed by Ralph L. Wadsworth Construction)
elevating the track for a distance of 3,700 feet over the Union Pacific Railroad
yard in Ogden. The entire project requires working within 25 feet of the active
mainline UPRR corridor from Salt Lake City to Ogden which has up to 80 trains
a day passing through at speeds up to 60 mph. The project runs through 14 different
municipalities and intersects at 42 road crossings which require significant reconstruction
efforts at each location.
The
project includes seismic base isolation, preservation and restoration of the State's
premiere granite structure. In addition to resolving structural problems, the
basic systems of the building including electrical, air conditioning, heating
and lighting will be brought up to current standards. Original artifacts contained
within the building, including the marble staircase, paintings, murals and statues,
will be repaired and restored as well. The project scope also includes a new Central
Plant that will occupy the northeast corner of the Capitol grounds. The plant
will provide distribution to the State Capitol, East/West Expansion Buildings,
State Office Building and Data Center.
This landmark three-year project for the SARMC campus
in Boise is expected to be completed June 2007. There are a lot of unique challenges
of building a seven story, 400,000 square foot tower between two 24-hour inpatient
care towers while maintaining connectivity for pedestrian and material movement.
The project includes a new main entrance, chapel, 16-suite surgical operating
theatre, pre- and post-op holding and recovery rooms, new ICU, neurological patient
care unit and multiple new patient rooms.
Located at the
heart of Tamarack Resort in Donnelly, Idaho, the Village Plaza will be home to
residential condominiums and lodging facilities, populated by both guests and
full-time residents. The pedestrian-friendly Village occupies a prominent place
at the base of the mountain and the six Village Plaza buildings are designed to
follow the natural terrain in order to preserve views and create intimacy and
encourage interactions. On the Plaza Level, Village Plaza consists of 35,990 square
feet of shops, restaurants, boutiques, galleries, and resort services, with 129
condominium residences on the top three levels, and 200 heated underground parking
stalls. Each building in Village Plaza is crafted of indigenous wood and stone
and reflects its own unique character of refined mountain luxury. The project's
overall footprint is 240,000 square feet. Construction began in the fall of 2005
and is scheduled for completion between May and August 2008.
The purpose of this project
is to provide a 70 million-gallon per day conventional water treatment plant consisting
of Flash Mix, Flocculation, Sedimentation, Ozonation for Taste & Odor, Biological
Filtration, Ultraviolet Light (UV) for disinfection and an 8,000 horsepower domestic
water pump station to transfer the finished water north to Salt Lake City and
Sandy City users. The initial capacity will be 70 million gallons per day, with
the capacity to expand to 151 million gallons per day. Includes traditional methods
of filtration including flocculation and chemical treatment, and will include
innovative features such as ultraviolet and ozone filtration. Because the Point
of the Mountain Water Treatment Plant is located beneath a world-renowned hang
gliding and paragliding launch site, MWDSLS designed for and constructed as part
of the project a five-acre emergency landing pad. Prior to construction, MWDSLS
embarked on a mass excavation project that consisted of the excavation of approximately
1.4 million cu. Yds. Of material. This endeavor required that the design consultants
fix their elevations, widths, wall thicknesses, etc. at around the 30 percent
design phase.
This is a multi-phased project in Park City. Phase I is valued at $28 million,
and includes a four-story condominium structure comprised of 23 individually owner
units ranging from 1,500-2500 square feet, 15 three-story townhomes, also in the
1,500-2,500 square foot range, and two below-grade parking structures comprising
33,000 square feet. Phase II ($24 million) also includes 18 individual condos,
along with 18 individual townhomes, both in the 1,500-2,500 square foot range.
This project also includes two below grade parking structures totaling 27,000
square feet. 22 single-family cottages ($22 million) are also planned for the
project.
This phased project calls for the replacement or remodel of more than 1,000
townhouses at Hill Air Force Base in Ogden. The scope of work includes the demolition
of 120 housing units. 428 of the units are considered minor remodels - the addition
of central air and new interior finishes. 180 of the units are major remodels.
The shell will remain on these units, but will include entirely new mechanical
and electrical systems, insulation, interior finishes, etc. In addition, there
will be 389 brand new dwelling units - 95 percent of which will be townhouses.
The site is roughly one
square mile in size - 511 acres in all. The main race course is 4.5 miles, which
combines the east course of 2.24 miles and the west course of 2.2 miles. The track
is designed to accommodate either one large event, or two smaller simultaneous
events. The project also features all support buildings for Race Control, a clubhouse,
24 Grand Prix garages, an automobile museum and retail building, 10 team garages,
day garages, a concessions/restroom/emergency services building, along with numerous
parking areas. Will host a number of professional road course races this year.
This project includes reconstructing the
Redwood Road Interchange, Redwood Road from 2100 South to 2320 South, and the
pavement on SR-201 between the Jordan River and I-215, widening the median and
shoulder on SR-201, between I-215 and Bangerter Highway, widening Bangerter Highway
and ramps to improve interchange traffic movements, and adding a collector/distributor
ramp from west bound SR-201 to northbound I-215. This major highway project is
progressing on schedule and is 50 percent complete. Redwood Road reconstruction
and widening between 2100 South and 2350 South has been completed one-year ahead
of schedule to accommodate motorists and local businesses.
The following
items remain:
