2007 ACI Excellence in Concrete Awards
The Intermountain Chapter of the American Concrete Institute (ACI) recognized 16 award-winning projects at its 20th annual Excellence in Concrete Awards banquet March 22 in Salt Lake City.
Projects were awarded in seven different categories including: commercial, educational, industrial, parking structure, pavements, public works and residential. Intermountain Contractor salutes those firms involved with these complicated, highly technical projects.

Commercial Construction Vibrant in Southern Utah
Commercial construction has been sprouting at outrageous numbers in all areas of southern Utah.
Scott Hirschi, director of Washington County economic development council, said in a 10-year period he has seen tremendous growth. Hirschi defines commercial as retail and wholesale - looking at value-added businesses, manufacturing companies and office buildings. Hirschi said the bench mark of booming growth in the area is often pointed to between the years 2000-2001.

Business Booming for Watts
With nearly four decades of construction experience, including the last 23 years in Southern Utah, Watts Construction has grown from a modest-sized general contractor into the largest general contractor with headquarters in St. George.
Annual revenues for the firm have grown significantly in recent years, and in 2006 Watts Construction eclipsed the $50 million mark - more than triple what the firm did three years previously.
