City Creek Center is perhaps the highest-profile, and most significant, project currently under construction in the Intermountain region. The project is estimated to cost between $1.5 billion and $2 billion, and could well eclipse the $2 billion mark by the time the project is 100% completed by spring of 2012. Demolition of the previous Crossroads and ZCMI malls has been finished for several months, and major construction work has been in full swing for over a year.

Currently there are three major structures under construction – a 32-story residential tower and two 10-story buildings totaling approximately 1.5 million sq ft. City Creek Center will encompass nearly 20 acres across three blocks in the heart of downtown Salt Lake City, and will ultimately include green space, water features and open walkways around three major retail anchors and other office and high-rise condo projects. Fountains and man-made streams will represent the historic south fork of City Creek that once ran through the downtown area when pioneering settlers first arrived in 1847. Plans call for approximately six acres of gardens and beautifully landscaped open space. A two-story underground parking garage will help maximize available open space. Structural highlights will include a sky bridge and a retractable dome-style roof, similar to ones used on large sports stadiums.
