This state-of-the-art polysilicon manufacturing plant in Pocatello, Idaho broke ground May 2007 and is expected to be completed in fall 2009. Hoku Scientific is a Hawaii-based company that focuses on clean energy technology and plans to produce a highly pure form of silicon from this plant, the key material used in most solar power systems. According to spokesperson Darrel Nakamoto, the company hopes to produce 3,500 metric tons of polysilicon annually, with room for future expansion up to 8,000 metric tons on the 67-acre site.
