Project will significantly improve safety and alleviate congestion between Draper and Saratoga Springs. When complete the road will be widened to two lanes with a center turn median and widened shoulders to accommodate bike lanes. The long awaited improvements to this road will drastically increase the capacity and safety of the road from its previous condition.
The project will include 290,000 tons of granular borrow, 220,000 tons of road base, 213,000 tons of asphalt and three wildlife crossings. A major challenge has been the tight schedule, in addition to using full-depth reclamation of existing asphalt – more than 1.7 million sq ft of material. The project runs from the Utah County line at Bangerter Highway through Saratoga Springs. The project began in March 2008 and is slated for completion in September 2009.
This project required relocation of most utilities within the project and many owners have elected to upgrade their facilities in conjunction with this project. Geneva Rock has coordinated the relocation efforts of 17 different utility owners including storm drain, irrigation, water, sewer, power, gas, and communication facilities.
