The Atkinville Interchange/Southern Parkway is the first of two phases of structure and roadway that lead to the new site of the St. George International Airport, with a third phase that will eventually extend into the Hurricane/LaVerkin area serving as a alternate belt route for Washington County.

Work on the 3.6 miles of roadway required 627,400 cu yds of excavation, 331,330 cu yds of borrow, 82,000 cu yds of embankment for bridge, 70,000 cu yds of rock excavation, 176,815 cu yds of granular borrow, 92,000 tons of HMA, 22,000 lf of ATMS, one box culvert addition, two new box culverts, a Single Point Urban Interchange, two frontage road bridges and 19,608 sq ft of MSE walls.

WBC acted as construction manager for the project and self-performed the bridge, box culvert and MSE panel work. Exit 2 was opened eight months ahead of schedule, giving the St. George community access on and off I-15 close to the busy Sun River Community. WBC is on track to complete the balance of the project to River Road this month.
