Intermountain Contractor’s Top Projects of 2009 in Utah and Idaho
60 Duchesne Valley WTP Expansion $34.4 M
Owner: Central Utah Water Conservancy District
GC: W.W. Clyde & Co.
Engineers: MWH; Bowen Collins & Assoc.
Key Subs: Skyline Electric; United T Mechanical; JRH Masonry
This WTP project entails rehabbing the existing intake structure, constructing a new access road (1,000-ft long, 6,400-cu-yd of material) to the intake structure, construction of a new water tank (2.8 MG), and constructing a new water treatment facility right along side the existing facility. All of this has to be done without impacting the existing facility, which is a single point of water for a large geographic area in eastern Utah. The existing plant will be in operation while all of the work is done. Tie-ins will be made between the new and existing facilities during scheduled shutdowns. Required in this project is mass excavation (10,000-cu-yd); 8,000-cu-yd of concrete will be used on the project.
This project is unique because W.W. Clyde & Co. will send divers into Starvation Reservoir to make modifications on the intake structure in the lake. The new facility must be constructed in the fall when Starvation Reservoir is at its low-water level to prevent the roadway from being flooded. The project is expected to be completed in October 2010.
