Camco Celebrates Topping Out of Zion’s Bank Project

Spindler building USU project; Westland begins elementary school in Uintah Co.; CMC hosts grand opening; McAlvain building Boondocks Fun Center in Kaysville.

Salt Lake City-based Camco Construction Inc. and Block 29 Developers held a topping out ceremony March 17 on the new Zion’s Bank Financial Center in Provo, Utah. The 9-story Class A office building contains more than 1,100 tons of structural steel and 10,000 cu yds of concrete with an exterior of EIFS, tile, and stone.

A portion of the new 196,562 sq ft building will be home to the Provo headquarters for Zion’s Bank. The remainder of the building will be available for future tenants. Adjoining to the office building will be a five-story, 326-stall parking structure. Anticipated completion of the project is Spring 2010.

Eagle View Elementary Underway

A groundbreaking ceremony was held March 17 for the Uintah School District’s new Eagle View Elementary/Middle School in Fort Duchesne. Westland Construction of Orem has teamed up with architect Kevin Madson & Associates of Provo on the project. The $13.5 million school is a bit unique, due to the fact that crews are demolishing two schools, a middle school and ¾ of an existing elementary school to build one building. The new school will accommodate both elementary and middle school students.

There will be 58,000 sq ft of new building, including classrooms, a library and a cafeteria, along with a remodeled gymnasium and auditorium, which makes up another 30,000 sq ft, all on a single level. This project is taking on strategic planning because the students are still in the school and using classrooms, the cafeteria and the gymnasium.

“It is challenging working around the school schedule and shifting classrooms during the demolition and construction,” says Joe Alldredge of Westland Construction.

The new K-8 school will be finished in August 2010.

Selway Apartments in Final Stages

The new family-oriented Selway Apartments in Meridian, Idaho has entered the final stages of building. Perryman Construction of Nampa, in partnership with architects Leatham Krohn Van Ocker of Boise, is planning to complete the project by the end of May.

The multiple-building complex consists of 19 two- and three-story buildings, sitting on ten acres, and totaling 200,000 sq ft. The $12 million project has 171 units with balconies, a clubhouse, swimming pool with spa, playground and a fitness center. The project will include a storage units and carriage units with garage and/or covered parking. The exterior is made up of concrete, Hardie plank siding and veneer stone. Interiors are highlighted by hickory cabinets and granite countertops. The grounds feature a paved walkway throughout the community as well as a picnic and play area.

The exterior design will be modular brick veneer, composite panels and glass curtain walls with a single-ply roof. The interior will be a traditional carpet and paint finish. This DFCM high performance building project is scheduled for completion in July 2010.

Western Reconstructing Blue Lakes Boulevard

The reconstruction of Blue Lakes Boulevard in Twin Falls, Idaho, which includes the installation of a storm water sewer system, began in late March.
Installation of the new storm water sewer system began at the Snake River canyon rim in early March and has crossed Fillmore Street. The trench work will cross the southbound lanes of Blue Lakes Boulevard and progress toward Pole Line Road in the center lane.
Later construction phases will include reconstruction of the road between Falls Avenue and Pole Line Road. That work is expected to begin in May. One lane in each direction will remain open, and business access will be restricted or altered throughout the corridor.
Western Construction of Boise is the contractor for the $4.6 million reconstruction.

McAlvain Building New Boondocks Fun Center

Boise-based McAlvain Construction, Inc. is in the midst of constructing a new Boondocks Fun Center in Kaysville, Utah. The $7 million project will consist of two buildings that total 55,500 sq ft. The larger of the two buildings is a 52,000 sq ft fun center; the project also includes a 3,500 sq ft maintenance building.

The new fun center will include a restaurant, rides, an arcade, a laser tag arena, and a bowling alley. Outside, the fun center will have a bumper boat pond, a miniature golf course, two go-cart tracks and batting cages. The building has a sitecast concrete and structural steel exterior. The new road is located just west of the Utah State University campus and will offer another way in and out of the school.
