ECCO Equipment Co. Relocates within Utah

Ecco Equipment Corp. was incorporated in California in 1972. It is the successor company to a partnership of Don W. Schmid and Lester A. Haug.

The corporation owns and leases heavy construction equipment throughout California and neighboring states. While the company's corporate office is in Santa Ana, Calif., additional offices and facilities are located in Visalia, Stockton and Riverside, Calif.; Las Vegas; Phoenix, Ariz. and Utah.

The facility previously located in Lehi, Utah, recently relocated to 1108 West 200 South in Lindon, Utah.

ECCO Equipment is not a contractor; its business is solely renting and leasing heavy construction equipment on a bare or operated basis. The company's inventory of about 600 pieces of heavy equipment includes excavators, dozers, loaders, motor graders, compactors, water pulls, off-highway trucks, gradalls and scrapers.




Local Contractor Honored by Firestone Building Products

Redd Roofing Company Inc., Ogden, Utah, has been named a 2003 Firestone Master Contractor and is a recipient of the President's Club Award and the Inner Circle of Quality Award. Redd Roofing Company Inc. is one of only 35 contractors to earn the President's Club Award and one of 104 roofing firms in the U.S. and Canada to receive the Inner Circle of Quality Award.

Since 1988, Firestone Building Products Company, Carmel, Ind., has honored exceptional firms like Redd Roofing Company Inc. for achieving Firestone's high standards for roof installation quality and long-term roofing system performance.

"Master Construction status is a level of distinction attained by contractors who have demonstrated quality workmanship and professionalism during the past year," said David Grass, president of Firestone Building Products Company. "The President's Club Award and the Inner Circle of Quality Award further acknowledge Redd Roofing Company Inc. for their strong commitment to teamwork, craftsmanship and work performance at the highest caliber."

2003 marks the 15th year Redd Roofing Company Inc. has achieved the President's Club Award. This year, 253 roofing firms attained Master Contractor status through inspection ratings received and total square footage for all Red Shield warranted Firestone Roofing Systems installed during 2002.

Redd Roofing Company Inc. has received the Inner Circle of Quality Award for the 10th time. The annual Inner Circle of Quality Award recognizes Master Contractors whose long-term roof performance, as measured by historical roof service costs, meets Firestone's established standards of excellence for each contractor's roofs in the fifth, sixth and seventh years following installation.




Anderson-Foothill Library Expansion Complete

The expansion and remodeling of the Anderson-Foothill branch of The Salt Lake City Public Library System has been completed. A ceremony was held at the library, 1135 South 2100 East, Salt Lake City, on March 8.

Speakers were Alveeda Lauscher, manager of the branch; Roger Sandack, president of the Library Board; David Buhler, City Council member, District 6; Jill Remington Love, City Council member, District 5; David Nimkin, chief of staff for the Salt Lake City Mayor's Office; and Nancy Tessman, director of The Salt Lake City Library System.

EDA Inc. Architects, Salt Lake City, designed the new addition. The general contractor was Garff Construction, Salt Lake City. The landscape architects was Scott Blake with Blake McCutchan, Salt Lake City.

The $1 million expansion of the Anderson-Foothill branch library was funded through a portion of the $84 million library bond issue overwhelmingly passed by 68percent of the voters in 1998. The addition to the Anderson-Foothill library, now 5,700 sq. ft., expanded the space for the children's library and provided for a community meeting room.

The original building opened in 1985; the first expansion was completed in 1992




Carter & Burgess Receives Achievement Award

Carter & Burgess Inc., St. George, Utah, has received the Outstanding Professional Achievement Award for 2002, presented by the Southern Utah Branch of the Utah Chapter of the American Public Works Association.

The award was presented in late January to Trent Thatcher, P.E., PTOE co-manager of the firm's St. George office.

Carter & Burgess has taken an active role in St. George transportation issues, currently working with the Utah Department of Transportation to design two signals on Telegraph Street. The firm also updated Washington City's traffic model, provided a design analysis of the Bluff Street and St. George Blvd. intersection and designed and oversaw the construction of the Tabernacle/Main Street Roundabout and Man O' War Bridge rehabilitation for the City of St. George.

The St. George office of Carter & Burgess has been open for nearly a year. Thatcher and Jerry Amundsen, P.E., head up the St. George office, located at 335 East St. George Blvd., Suite 301C.




RMH Group Begins Work for USU

The RMH Group is proud to announce the firm has recently begun work on a $13.2 million chilled water and cogeneration expansion project for Utah State University in Logan.

RMH's role on the design-build team, which is led by Jacobsen Construction Company of Salt Lake City, entails mechanical and electrical engineering, including cogeneration with the assistance of Thomas Engineering Company of Bountiful, Utah.

These new systems serve as an addition to the campus' new central heating plant and utility tunnel system. The ultimate buildout of the plant will serve about 3.5 million sq. ft. of building space on a 20,000 student, 400-acre campus.

On-site electricity production by a 4.3 MW cogeneration system and central chilling are being added to achieve long-term reduction in energy costs and improved cooling reliability. The design addresses distribution and initial connection to seven buildings and provisions for ultimate chiller capacity of 5,000 tons and distribution to 23 buildings.




Wadman Recipient of Industry Awards

Ogden-based Wadman Corporation was named General Contractor of the Year at the annual Excellence in Construction Awards Competition, hosted by Associated Builders and Contractors of Utah. The annual competition is a forum in which to recognize the outstanding projects and contractor members of the Utah Chapter of ABC.

Wadman also received a Safety Award from ABC for its commitment to safety management of all projects for 2002.

The awards were presented to Wadman at the ABC Utah Annual Convention held in Salt Lake City in February 2003.




South Ogden Wal-Mart Underway by R&O

South Ogden City will add a Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market to its list of services this summer. The project, located at 1604 E. Skyline Drive in South Ogden, is currently under construction by R&O Construction of Ogden. The project is expected to be complete by the first part of August 2003.

Due to R&O Construction's strength in retail building, it has been doing projects consistently for Wal-Mart since 2001 in Utah, Arizona, Idaho and New Mexico. In February 2003, R&O completed a Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market in South Jordan, Utah. The firm has also converted several Wal-Mart Grocery Stores to Supercenters, in addition to constructing completely new centers.
