Big-D Construction and Kier Form Partnership
Big-D Construction and Kier Construction have teamed up to
form a joint venture company known as Kier/Big-D Construction,
L.L.C. The company was created to bring together the expertise
of both companies to pursue large multi-unit housing projects.
Ground was recently broken on Kier/Big-D's first project,
a luxury timeshare resort in Las Vegas, Nev. for Trendwest
Resorts. The project consists of 192 units in 6 buildings
along with associated amenities including two large courtyards,
pools, Jacuzzi tubs, basketball courts, and putting greens.
The $25 million project will be complete in May of 2005.

Bowerman Associates Buys Daw Inc.
Daw Incorporated, a Draper, Utah based specialty construction
company, announced today the sale of its business to LD Bowerman
Associates, LLC, also of Draper. Daw Inc., a privately held
family business established in 1952, is a leading specialty
contractor serving the commercial, retail and institutional
construction industries throughout the Intermountain West.
The company will now be known as Daw Construction Group, LLC,
and will continue to provide high quality service and products
to its clients, said L.D. Bowerman. Both Ryan and Gordon Daw
will remain with the company as managers. LD Bowerman Associates,
LLC is a privately held investment entity, led by L.D. Bowerman.
Since coming to Draper in 1997, Bowerman has launched several
commercial, retail and residential projects in the area as
well as other companies in the region. Bowerman worked for
37 years as a manager in the heavy civil/underground construction
industry for Peter Kiewit Sons Inc., based in Omaha, NE. Michael
L. Skalla will join Daw Construction group as General Manager.
Skalla is a 1988 graduate of Brigham Young University, with
a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering. He has
worked in construction and real estate development fields
for the past 16 years, and has managed the various investment
and development projects for LD Bowerman Investments over
the past 4 ½ years.
Daw will continue to contract in the commercial, retail and
institutional markets for drywall and framing systems, Skalla
said, as well as tenant interior finish construction, and
hollow metal doors, frames and hardware, as well as wood door
products. The distribution of MBI and Batt insulation products
will also move forward, he said. In addition, Daw's new residential
design center, Stone Creek Design, located in the corporate
offices at 12552 S 125 West, will proceed in its new business
arena, offering high-end plumbing fixtures, residential door
and hardware products, as well as specialty fireplace castings.
"Our sale to Bowerman is a very positive move forward for
the company," Ryan Daw stated. "I anticipate strong
synergies with the Bowerman Group, enabling Daw Construction
to continue our tradition of quality work and positive contributions
to many projects within the State of Utah and the Intermountain
West."

Stanley Consultants opens Boise office
In March, Stanley Consultants announced the opening of a
new office in Boise, Idaho. The office will initially provide
land development services including master planning, commercial
development and subdivision development.
Stanley Consultants is a worldwide provider of engineering,
environmental and
construction services. Its Salt Lake City office is located
at 5353 S. 960 E,
Suite 220.
The new Boise office will be staffed with four former Hubble
Engineering employees who have joined Stanley Consultants.
As members of Stanley Consultants, Office Manager Scott Wonders,
along
with Ashley Ford, Dean Cardwell, and Everett Earnest will
continue to provide
land development services to existing and new clients.
"We're very pleased to provide land development services
within the Treasure Valley," says Stanley Consultants
Senior Vice President Dick Mettee. "Our new Boise office
provides the opportunity to work closely with Hubble Homes
and other clients,
as well as expand into other markets."
According to Mettee, there are immediate plans to increase
the number of staff in the office and to begin offering surveying
services. Transportation and environmental engineering services
will likely be added in the future. The Boise office is temporarily
located at 701 S. Allen Street, Suite 110, in Meridian, Idaho.
This office joins 13 other domestic offices owned by Stanley
Consultants.

Albion Village Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
Pentalon Construction of Draper celebrated the completion
of two of the three buildings in the new Albion Village mixed-use
housing and retail project in Sandy, Utah. The project is
designed around the concept of a European Villa with the retail
portion located down the main street of the Villa. The project
was designed by Soren Simonsen, Principal of Cooper, Roberts
Simonsen Architects in North Salt Lake, Utah.
The project manager is Cindy Cummings and the superintendent
is Vincent Morgan.
The ribbon cutting attracted such people as, Jeff Bennion,
the Director of Fannie Mae Utah Partnership Office who assisted
with funding on the project. Along with, the Robert F. Bennett,
United States Senator, Mayor Tom Dolan, Sandy City mayor,
Dale Gunther, president of Bank of American Fork who also
assisted with funding as well as Jason Johnson, Partner of
the ARX Group and one of the owners of the project.
Construction of a third building that is part of phase I will
begin in spring. The master plan of the community includes
16 buildings and a clubhouse.

Rocky Mountain Prestress Partners to Market Precast Technologies
Rocky Mountain Prestress has partnered with other leading
precast concrete manufacturers to form AltusGroup (www.altusprecast.com),
the first-ever national partnership of precast companies dedicated
to developing, manufacturing and marketing precast concrete
technologies.
Rocky Mountain joins four well known names in the precast
concrete industry: Oldcastle Precast Inc., Building Systems
Division (Edgewood, Md.); HIGH Concrete Structures, Inc. (Lancaster,
PA.); precasters JW Peters and Iowa Prestress of Cretex Companies
(Elk River, Minn.); and Metromont Prestress Co. (Greenville,
S.C.).

Wadman to Build in St. George and Layton
The Catholic Diocese of Salt Lake City has awarded Wadman
Corporation a $1.2 million construction contract for the Bishop
Niederauer Catholic Education Center in St. George, Utah.
The new 14,500-sq ft, three-story addition to St. George Catholic
Church will house education classrooms along with office and
retail space. Plans for a portion of the retail space will
include a thrift store.
The St. George architect firm of Wells & Associates is
the architect of record for the project.
The construction schedule is slated to begin in early April
with a completion date in the Fall of 2004.
Wadman is currently working on other St. George area projects
including the Washington City Fire Station. Projects completing
in the area include Santa Clara Library and Hurricane Library
addition.
Wadman Corporation will also be constructing a new department
store in Layton for Kohl's.
The 92,737-sq ft retail center will take 8 months to complete
and is scheduled to open in October 2004.

R & O Begins Work on Highland Place Development
R & O Construction of Ogden has begun work on the Highland
Place Shopping Center at 6910 So. Highland Drive. The project
consists of the construciotn of a new façade at the
north end of the shopping center, construction of a new Wild
Oats Market, tenant finish, and new construction of a Tunex
and a dry-cleaners. Demolition work and site improvements
are also part of the project.
The project must be performed while about a dozen other businesses
in the shopping center remain open.
