Over the past 30 years, Mr. Hall has managed all aspects of geotechnical construction including drilling, grouting, and high-capacity anchor installation for civil construction, mineral exploration, and environmental projects.

The acquisition bolsters Nicholson's capabilities in the areas of curtain drilling and grouting, mine grouting, and tunnel and shaft grouting, as well as high-capacity anchor installation.

"This venture provides us with quality specialized equipment and some of the best people in the business," explains Nicholson president Andrew Walker. "The knowledge and experience possessed by these new employees are the fundamental reasons for this move. Rob Moore, president of Big-D Construction Corp., stated that this and other public projects are significant to the Utah economy. "The private sector remains slow and without the public sector construction jobs in Utah would be very flat." He added that over 150 construction management and tradesmen would be utilized on the project. The project will be managed from the company's Ogden office.

JRCA Architects Design new Justice Center for West Jordan

Salt Lake City-based JRCA Design has designed a new a new police and courts building for West Jordan. Ground for the new facility was broken this summer. The facility is situated along West Jordan's main thoroughfare, Redwood Road. The architecture of the facility harmonizes with the existing City Hall facility and the new Fire Station. The building is placed closer to the street to complete the definition of the City Plaza created in front of City Hall. The design of the facility conveys a more traditional form along the Redwood Road façade to continue the formal presence established with City Hall and the existing fire station. The west elevation of the facility provides a less formal form with a strong and well defined entry, serving as a landmark to the facility from the adjacent city parking lot. This less formal form also serves as a bridge and transitional element between the traditional, formal City Hall and a new State Courts facility being constructed in the south west corner of the complex. Secure police and courts parking is situated to the south of the facility in a location that is away form public circulation patterns, but allows easy access to streets. Circulation patterns within the building strictly limit interaction between police, detainees, court personnel and the public to specific controlled areas.
