Dunn Associates Receives National Marketing Awards
Dunn Associates, a Salt Lake City-based consulting structural
engineering firm, was recently recognized with two national
awards as a part of the Society for Marketing Professional
Services (SMPS) Marketing Communications Awards Program. Dunn
Associates was recognized with the first place award for small
firms in the web site category. Dunn Associates then received
the Small Firm Best of Show designation, given to the top
award winner across 18 categories, as determined by national
media representatives.
Rod Zabriskie, Dunn Associates' marketing director, attended
the SMPS National Conference and Awards Gala to accept the
awards on behalf of the firm. "It was remarkable to have
received the award for the web site category to begin with.
But to have also been recognized with the Best of Show award,
when matched up against that many other award winners in their
respective categories, was a special honor," said Zabriskie.
The web site, found at www.dunn-se.com, features information
about the firm, personnel, project experience, special services
and case studies. The site also includes a special client
reference library that is designed to give architects, contractors
and owners basic structural information when setting up new
projects. Additionally, a link to an FTP site allows for the
convenient exchange of files throughout the design and construction
process.
Ronald H. Dunn, owner and founder of Dunn Associates, said
of the award, "It's an honor. They recognized that we
have incorporated a completely different approach on our web
site; it's not just an advertising medium, but a tool for
our clients to download information that streamlines the procurement
and design processes."
The web site was initially designed by Modern8, a brand-focused
design firm, also of Salt Lake City.
According to SMPS, "The annual SMPS Marketing Communications
Award Program recognizes excellence in marketing communications
by professional service firms in the design and building industry.
Awards are presented in 18 categories," including corporate
identity, newsletter, promotional campaign and web site.

Utah firm engineers major project in Arizona
Pic in file "El Rancho"
Reeve & Associates recently completed final engineering
design for El Rancho SantaRosa: a residential community in
Pinal County, Arizona encompassing 720 residential home sites.
Situated between Phoenix and Tucson, Pinal County is one of
the fastest growing areas in the western United States. All
homes sites have been sold with construction of site improvements
beginning the end of October.
During the course of the project, Reeve encountered significant
challenges including designing around an existing 340-foot
wide channel called the SantaRosa Wash. Serving as a major
drainage system for the Phoenix area, the wash cuts directly
through the 200-acre development. Reeve transformed this barren
feature into a recreational area for walking, jogging, biking,
and horseback riding trails.
A 30-acre open space requirement, initially an obstacle,
became an asset by providing an area for on-site retention
for all storm water. By perking water into the ground within
36 hours of collection, this retention system enables the
underground aquifer to be recharged -- important in an area
of scarce water resources.
Despite the harsh, arid climate, an impressive landscape
design was created through the use of creative xeriscaping
techniques. By using palm trees complemented with rugged rock
walls as a focal point, plants and shrubs were then added
to provide color throughout the year.
This ability to transform design constraints into features
that enhance the project is a hallmark of our planning and
engineering services.
A Utah-based, firm Reeve & Associates works closely with
Kent Hoggan, the real estate developer for El Rancho SantaRosa.
Hoggan, also based in Utah, develops numerous projects throughout
the western U.S.
